A true blue rose does not occur in nature but some shades of lavender or purple may come daringly close. Florists and horticulturalists alike have painstakingly tried to simulate a blue rose (commonly a white rose dyed blue) but even the most skilled propagation has merely yielded variations of lilac to deep violet. Don’t get me wrong, the colors are magnificent but nonetheless, the blue rose remains an enigma, an unattainable dream.
Since the elusive blue rose cannot be copied organically, invented (the needed pigments are nonexistent) or exclusively owned, it is relegated to a pedestal of its own.
Consequently, the blue rose:
- is admired
- is a badge of honor
- has a complex charm
- is an emblem for unrequited and unattainable love
- has the power to enchant
- mirrors the free mind, ad libitum
- is beyond our grasp
- indicates speculation of the unknown
- suggests secrets
- is a surrealistic fantasy
The blue rose is a mystery waiting to be explored…
